Lesson 14 - Hypervalency - BIOCHEMISTRY LITERACY FOR KIDS

Lesson 14 - Hypervalency

Lesson Description

In this lesson, students learn how silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, and chlorine bond. They learn that some of these elements can be hypervalent, making 5, 6, or even 7 bonds. Understanding how phosphorus behaves is particularly important in comprehending the phosphate backbone of DNA and RNA, and the phosphate head group of membrane lipids.
