Description

Welcome to Biochemistry!

This is a new Zoom class concept for students who are beginning their Biochemistry Literacy journey. This March, we will explore medicinal chemistry topics, and will learn about a different drug category during each session. The class is designed to get students who have recently begun Biochemistry Literacy more involved and to help them quickly grasp some of the most interesting biochemistry concepts.

Schedule:

Week 1: Anti-fever medications

Week 2: Natural neurotoxins

Week 3: Anti-anxiety medications

Week 4: Blood pressure control medications

We will focus on building molecules with the model kits and exploring how their structures allow them to bind to their target enzymes. We will also emphasize PyMol molecular modeling skills, so that that students can hit the ground running with the use of this powerful tool. I won’t be reviewing specific pre-recorded lessons in this class, so no matter where you are in the curriculum, please feel free to join. The only prerequisite is that students must have completed the the pre-recorded lesson 1 before starting this Zoom series.

Classes meet for 50 minutes on Tuesdays at 7:45pm Eastern, March 4, 11, 18, and 25.  There is a possibility that I will extend the class into April and cover a different set of topics.
