Biochemistry Literacy for Kids

Biochem 2.0 Lessons

Start your Biochemistry Literacy journey here.

This introductory survey of biochemistry will fascinate and inspire learners of all ages.

Biochem 2.o is here!

Biochem 2.0 is my new multi-unit course of study that will eventually replace the “Classic” program that students have been using since 2019. These units are beautiful and are the ultimate vision that I always wanted for science learning.

Panorama (unit 1) uses stunning visualizations, molecular modeling, workbook activities, and home lab experiments to introduce chemistry and biochemistry in a totally unique way. This is the science course you have all been waiting for! Despite covering advanced material, this unit is NGSS-aligned to all elementary chemistry standards, but also is appropriate for learners of any age through to college. There are no prerequisites, but you should purchase a model kit to get the full experience. Watch a sample lesson and scroll to view Lessons 1-10.

Canopy (unit 3) is the much awaited Star Chemistry unit, and covers high school topics like the mole, atomic weight, isotopes, and radioactivity, and then applies them to stellar fusion. The second half of the course covers the nuclear chemistry of stars, connecting the elements of life to their cosmic origins. This is truly a unique course, and does not require completion of Unit 1, although it will make the unit more meaningful. Watch a sample lesson and scroll to view Lessons 21-26. (All videos will be added by the end of August 2026.)

Calliope (unit 2) and many other units will eventually become available and replace the original “classic” course over time. But for now, students should begin with the two currently-available Biochem 2.0 courses and then purchase the classic lessons to complete their Biochemistry Literacy experience. More advanced learning opportunities are available through the Zoom program.

Panorama: Unit 1

Get a panoramic view of the world of chemistry with introductory topics form bonding to chemical reactions.

Canopy: Unit 3

Connect our biochemical world to the canopy of stars, and learn how they create the element of life.
